Jefferson Police BadgeA Jamaica man faces theft and burglary charges for a July incident.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says around 10:45am Monday, police officers, deputies with the Greene and Guthrie County Sheriff’s offices and the Iowa State Patrol executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Main Street in Jamaica. Authorities were searching for reported stolen tools from a Durlam Electric truck that was parked in the Jefferson Fareway parking lot on July 31st.

Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio they received a tip that the suspect’s vehicle was in Jamaica. Clouse says they compared the vehicle to the video surveillance footage from Fareway and then saw the individual that also fit the description from the footage as well.

During the search warrant, officers couldn’t locate the stolen property, but Guthrie County Sheriff’s deputies recovered drug paraphernalia items in the suspect’s home and will file charges later. The vehicle and the suspect were not home when the search warrant was executed. Clouse notes since they were able to connect the vehicle and suspect involved in the July incident, they have applied for arrest warrants for 41-year-old Brett Dwaine West, charging him with a Class D Felony for second degree theft and an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree burglary.

Clouse says once the warrants are issued and West is apprehended, he will be booked into the Greene County jail.
