For three days this week, a neighborhood in Perry will be transformed thanks to the help of Habitat for Humanity of Dallas County. Habitat is bringing their “Rock the Block” program to Perry from Wednesday through Saturday, working on five projects.

Dallas County Habitat for Humanity Outreach Coordinator Omar Padilla explains the significance of the program when it comes to neighborhood revitalization. “The idea of rocking a block is really a more effective way of repairing houses. We’ve found that when we go into a community, if we concentrate our work in a couple blocks, in a segment of town, the impact that we create is amplified. Because people can see two out of ten houses in a block are now repaired, windows are changed, a new roof was put on. And so the neighbors begin fixing their own houses. We see it all the time.”

The “Rock the Block” program this week also coincides with Perry High School’s Volunteer Day being held on Wednesday, and several students will be helping to repair the houses. To learn more about all the programs offered by Habitat for Humanity, click the link below.
