Greene County SheriffA Scranton man led authorities on a chase, which ended in the middle of a cornfield over the weekend.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says around 2:45pm Friday, a deputy was attempting to stop a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Joseph Blackmon of Scranton for driving with a suspended license near Casey’s General Store and Highway 25 in Scranton. A short vehicle chase ensued for about seven blocks and ended with Blackmon’s Ford Taurus going through about 150 yards of a cornfield located at High and Grant streets. Williams adds Blackmon then got out of the Taurus and ran deeper into the cornfields where the deputy lost sight of him.

Williams says they found drugs in the vehicle after it was impounded. The Sheriff’s office has requested arrest warrants for Blackmon charging him with a felony for eluding, as well as misdemeanors for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Further charges are pending completion of the investigation.

Once the warrants are issued and Blackmon is apprehended, he will be booked into the Greene County jail.
