Next week is Perry High School’s homecoming week, and this year’s theme is “Safari in the Savannah.”

The festivities will officially kick off today with the announcement of the homecoming court and hall decoration after school. Activities will then run each day next week, including daily dress up days. Wednesday will be a busy day for students, as they will be sent out into the community to offer their services for volunteer day. The volunteering will wrap up before 6 p.m., at which time the homecoming parade will commence. The parade will start at the high school and finish on 2nd Street where there will be a barbeque at Raccoon Valley Bank.

The Chamber of Commerce is organizing the parade, and Chamber Board member Lee Coons says they look forward to continuing the new tradition. “This will be our second year bringing the homecoming parade back to the community after a 10-plus year hiatus. As a Chamber last year, we felt it was important to try to engage the community, and the spirit of homecoming week in general with all the kids and bring that parade back to the community. And so we’re glad to say we’re bringing that back this year.”

Thursday night will be the coronation of the homecoming king and queen, as well as a pep rally. Raccoon Valley Radio will be broadcasting the coronation live on FM 99.7, AM 1310 KDLS. The pep rally will be followed by a bonfire. The week will conclude Friday with Game Day, the football game against Dallas Center-Grimes, and the homecoming dance from 10 p.m. – 1 a.m. in the high school commons.
