greene county historical societyThe candidates for city council and mayor positions in Greene County have been released for the November election.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s office, there are no contested races in the City of Jefferson. The three candidates running for three seats include incumbents Larry Teeples and Harry Ahrenholtz, along with newcomer Matt Gordon. Matt Wetrich is running unopposed to fill a vacancy on the Council in Ward Two.

However, there are contested races for mayor and city council in Grand Junction, along with two special measures. Grand Junction has two candidates for mayor including current Mayor Teresa Lansman and Brock Lyons. Additionally there are six candidates running for three available seats on the Grand Junction City Council including incumbents Randy Frantz and Pierre J. Kellogg, along with newcomers Jacob Fester, Andrew Krieger, Kenneth Madesen and Jeff Strabley. The two special measures concern changes to the library board of trustees. Voters will be asked to amend an ordinance that all trustees be at least 18-years-old and at least four trustees must live within the City limits and the other members can live outside the limits, but must reside within the library district. The other measure is limiting trustee terms to four years.

The other contested race is in Scranton. There are two candidates running for mayor and they include Jerry Erwin and Cole Gustoff. There are also three candidates running for two available city council seats. The candidates are Marcia VanCannon, Jerald Boyd and David Dideriksen.

Paton’s mayor seat will be elected by write-in, since no papers were submitted to be on the ballot.
