Perry High School was bursting with excitement Thursday night, as the school and community took part in the annual homecoming coronation ceremony.
As heard live on FM 99.7, AM 1310 KDLS, the ceremony included a pep rally with dances, contests, and music. However, the part everyone was anticipating with bated breath was the crowning of the king and queen. With the lights dimmed and tension in the air, last year’s king and queen placed the crowns on the heads of Reece Dunlap and Vivian Gonzalez. Surprise was writ large across both of their faces upon hearing their name called. Dunlap describes the experience. “I was very shocked to hear my name, but after that it’s just all excitement and celebration after that.”
It was a night neither of them will forget. Gonzalez explained what she’ll remember most. “Definitely the pain on my feet with these heels! No, just getting picked and the excitement that was before that.” The evening concluded with the newly crowned king and queen leading the crowd out to the bonfire.
