High hopes surrounded Urbandale middle school this past Saturday as both ADM cross country teams officially begun their 2017 seasons.

It was a 6 team field on the girls side with ADM, Dowling-Catholic, host Urbandale, Inidanola, Des Moines Hoover, and Des Moines Roosevelt. On the boys end it was a 5 team field as ADM went up against Urbandale, Indianola, Des Moines Hoover, and Dowling Catholic.

The Lady Tigers opened up their season with a 5th place finish with 140 points preceded by Indianola  in 4th, Urbandale in 3rd, Des Moines Roosevelt in 2nd, and Dowling Catholic in the top spot. Sadie Jueregens comes back from her state meet season and opened up 2017 to lead ADM with a 5th place finishing time of 20:06.10 on Saturday. Freshmen Hannah Welch was the next Lady Tiger up placing 30th with a time of 22:17.90.

On the boys side Dowling Catholic made it a clean sweep taking the meet crown a full 45 points ahead of second place Indianola. Third place on the boys side belonged to Urbandale while a youthful ADM roster took 4th with 110 points followed by Des Moines Hoover to round out the field. Ethan Juergens continued in the steps of his sister by leading the Tiger boys with a 15th place finish of 17:41.1. Juergens was followed closely by newcomer Rylan Heffernan who took 16th place with a time of 17:41.8. The youth showed very prominently for the Tigers with three out of the top 5 ADM runners consisting of two freshmen and one sophomore.

ADM’s second competitive outing will soon follow suit as tomorrow takes both the girls and the boys squads to the Lakeview Country Club against a pair of 17 team fields. Tomorrow’s action for ADM cross country will begin at 4:30 pm.
