ADMWeek one was quite the inauspicious start for the ADM football team to begin the 2017 season falling to non district rival Dallas Center-Grimes.

Now as head coach Mike Whinser and his Tigers enter their final non district tune up game tonight against Ballard, they will be searching for more than just their first win, but their first points of 2017. The Tigers were shut out 35-0 in week one and were limited to just 88 yards of total offense, 68 of which came through the air.

As the Tigers look to erase the memory of week one in Huxley tonight, one remedy coach Whisner has instilled is by putting more focus on a crucial component for his offense.

“We have to establish that we can run the ball and in the first game we were out physicalled up front and Ballard’s going to be very similar. They’re going to come after you and so the level of competition that our line men want to step up and play is going to determine how the running game goes. I think that with some play action passing and then geting after them with some quick passing, I think the variety will help us but we still have to do the basics of block and run,” explained coach Whisner.

As the Tigers tangle with the Bombers, the running game won’t just be a focus for the Tiger offense, but for the defense as well. ADM gave up 168 yards on the ground last week and this week they’ll have to buckle down against a solid Ballard rushing attack led by Hunter Wright, a back who garnered more than 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. The All-State senior has already made a splash in 2017 with 176 yards and one touchdown in Ballard’s season opener.
