Greene County SheriffTwo people were hurt in a head-on collision in Greene County Sunday.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says at 6:09pm a deputy, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and Jefferson Fire Department responded to the crash on 220th Street just west of E Avenue. Forty-nine-year-old Paul Askvig of Apple Valley, Minnesota was traveling west on 220th Street, when his 2010 Town and Country Van crossed the centerline and hit an eastbound 2016 Toyota Prius head-on.

Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the driver of the Prius, 76-year-old Paul Herrick of Perry and a passenger were transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS for non-life threatening injuries. Askvig was uninjured. All occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident and air bags deployed in both vehicles. The van had $6,000 damage, while the Prius was a total loss.

Askvig was arrested and charged with his first offense for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and cited for driving left of center.
