The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office is looking for information regarding an attempted abduction that happened Wednesday in Menlo.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s office, the incident happened just before noon, when a white adult male attempted to force an 11-year-old girl into his vehicle. The vehicle was described as a white 2000’s-model SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, with rust near the passenger wheel wells. The girl was reportedly walking near the intersection of Panora and 4th streets when the vehicle approached her. The man inside asked for directions to Omaha. When she approached, he attempted to pull her inside, but she resisted and was able to break free. She ran to a nearby residence to call 911, and the suspect drove away. The man was wearing a black ski mask and a Green Bay Packers hat at the time.

The Stuart Police Department responded first to the scene, due to deputies dealing with a separate arrest. The Sheriff’s office then conducted an investigation into the incident by reviewing surveillance cameras around town and interviewing witnesses. The vehicle is no longer believed to be in Guthrie County.

If anyone has any information on the incident or the suspect, they are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s office at 641-747-2214. Information can be given anonymously.
