The Stuart City Council met last night in regular session.

Greg Roth of Veenstra and Kimm presented the findings of the most recent traffic study regarding the 700 block of S Division St.  The study was warranted due to the influx of traffic for developing business ventures, including Karl’s Chevrolet.  Roth recommended adding pedestrian crossings, a three-lane-road, and a new road to that area of town.  The council moved to pursue plans to alleviate traffic concerns, which could cost over one million dollars.

The White Pole Road Development Corporation urged the council to consider turning the Depot into a welcome center for tourists.  The corporation would also like to use the facility to store historical memorabilia associated with the depot and the road.

Stuart’s Public Works Director discussed plans to repaint the pool and place defibrillators at the pool and in City Hall.  The board also approved plans to investigate the possibility of adding a new security system at City Hall.
