Perry School Board 8-14

The Perry School Board met Monday evening in regular session.

After going over the consent agenda, the Board set a date for a public hearing relating to an easement with the Dallas County Conservation Board for a recreational trail. Superintendent Clark Wicks explained it was an easement already agreed upon by both parties, but in order to make it official it needed to be discussed in a public hearing. The date was set for September 11th, which is the next regular Board meeting.

The Board then received a report from Kevin Vidergar, Director of Teaching and Learning, on the back to school workshops for new staff. The new teachers had workshops last week, and the rest of the staff will have workshops this week. Elementary Principal Ned Menke then gave a report on an administrative conference he attended, which he felt was very beneficial.

In general business, the Board approved several items, including: the District’s legislative priorities; an agreement with Genesis Development; three additional Professional Learning Community leaders; two additional fundraisers for the girls basketball team; and meal contracts for Head Start and the Perry Child Development Center. They also approved the hires, transfers, resignations, and modifications, which Wicks says were plentiful, but each building is still well-staffed.

The meeting ended with an item not on the agenda. Several administrators had met last week with architecture firms to discuss the new football complex being funded largely by a donation from the VanKirk family. Board President Kyle Baxter says they met with three firms, but they’re likely to go with Larson Engineering. No action was taken, but the Board may have a special meeting in the coming weeks to approve a contract with Larson.
