Today marks the first competition of the season for the ACGC Charger football team.

Head coach Mark McDermott will be taking his squad on the road to Panora to take on fellow Guthrie County rival Panorama in the annual preseason scrimmage.

As the Chargers enter into their second scrimmage under the ACGC name, they will be looking to grown from and put behind last season and one of the things coach McDermott is looking for to accomplish that is mental toughness from his squad.

“Mentally our kids are going to have to be really tough this year and we’ve been talking about that because we’re going to have a lot of guys that are playing both ways. They’re going to have to overcome some things from game in and game out to play in and play out and they’re just going to have to work through maybe some aches and pains and just getting back in their for the next play, next game. We’re not going to be real deep but the guys that can get out there on Friday nights, we can be very competitive with them,” mentioned coach McDermott.

As for the scrimmage tonight, the Chargers will take on Panorama in Panora beginning at 7:00 pm. The cost of entry is merely a sports drink to be donated to the football teams.
