usdaAs drought conditions continue across much of Iowa, the latest crop report reflects some of those drier areas.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Agricultural Statistics Service, during the week ending on August 13th, Iowa had an average of 6.3 suitable working days in the crop fields. Topsoil moisture levels dropped to 30-percent very short, 33-percent short, 37-percent adequate and 0-percent surplus.

During that same time period, 62-percent of the corn crop was in or beyond dough stage, which was six days behind last year’s pace. Another eight-percent was at dent stage, which was one week behind the average. The condition of the corn crop came in at: three-percent very poor, nine-percent poor, 27-percent fair, 52-percent good and nine-percent excellent. Soybeans ranged from: four-percent very poor, 11-percent poor, 29-percent fair, 49-percent good and seven-percent excellent.
