Dallas Co Supervisors

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning in regular session.

To start the meeting off, the Supervisors approved the County holidays for 2018. One date of note is Christmas, which falls on a Tuesday next year. As such, the County offices will be closed Monday, the 24th, and the week’s Supervisors meeting will be moved. They also approved updates to the employee handbook to remove language prohibiting firearms in County buildings, excluding the courthouse, per the new gun laws issued by the state legislature.

Next, the Board approved a resolution setting the ballot language for the unincorporated areas of the County for the local option sales tax measure. There were two versions of the resolution, one with a sunset date and one without. Supervisor Brad Golightly moved to accept the resolution without a sunset. It was approved, though Supervisor Chair Kim Chapman voted against it. The ballot language states the revenue from the tax would be used for 55% property tax relief, and 45% capital projects.

The Supervisors then received a law enforcement center update from Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance. Purdy also discussed the proposed lagoon expansion for the facility to use. No action was taken on either topic. The Board also held a public hearing related to a resolution to approve the final plat of the Little Beaver Creek County Estates project. Once the hearing concluded, they approved the resolution.

Finally, the Board discussed contracts for janitorial services with Reliable Maintenance and Genesis Development. They would like the contracts to be similar to the one they currently use, so drafts of them will be presented next week. The meeting concluded with an informational workshop with the Recorder’s department.
