Perry girls basketball coach Chris Morrow knows that he is going to be dealing with a different type of athlete than the one he has been working with the past few years at the AAU Academy Pure Prep.  Morrow has been instrumental in developing some of central Iowa’s top talent as they pursue the goal of playing basketball at the next level.

“The key for me is getting the girls to buy in.  At the AAU level, parents are paying for their kids to play and the girls are usually really driven in the sport.  At the high school level, you have more of a variety as to why kids are coming out.  Some are first time players, while others just want to play the sport and have fun and be a part of the team.”

Despite the differences as to why the girls go out, Morrow says his coaching approach will remain exactly the same.

“I am going to coach the kids the same way I do with the Pure Prep Academy.  You treat everyone with respect and you place the same expectations on them.  The biggest expectation is that they are willing to put the time in and work.  The girls will see that I am all in and the key for them will be to get excited for the sport and to buy in to the hard work and spread that excitement around.”

Perry has reported solid numbers the past few days as Morrow has resumed open gym workouts in preparation for the upcoming season.
