guthrie county sheriffA Carroll man died after a rollover accident in Guthrie County Monday.

Chief Deputy Jeremy Bennett says the Sheriff’s office responded to the accident around 1:25pm on Chestnut Road, about seven-miles south of Coon Rapids.

Bennett says 56-year-old Randy Barker from Carroll was traveling south on Chestnut Road when he saw a broken-down semi parked partially on the road and partially on the shoulder in front of him. Barker tried to swerve to avoid the stationary vehicle, but overcorrected onto the east shoulder and his loaded cement truck turned onto the driver’s side. Bennett notes that Barker was taken to Iowa Methodist Hospital by air ambulance, where he later died of his injuries.

The cement truck was a total loss and it is unclear if Barker was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. No one else was hurt in the incident and crews were on scene for about three hours.

Coon Rapids Fire and Rescue, Carroll County Ambulance and Coon Rapids Police Department assisted the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office at the scene.
