Greene County SheriffA Story City man faces drug charges after leaving the scene of an accident in Greene County.

Sheriff Jack Williams says just before 7:30 Thursday morning, he and Chief Deputy Nathaniel Chapman responded to a one vehicle accident east of R Avenue on 305th Street. Fifty-seven-year-old Michael Correy was traveling east on 305th Street and swerved to miss hitting a deer. He then lost control of his 2017 Nissan Murano and went into the south ditch and hit a tree. The vehicle was a total loss. Correy left the scene of the accident when a friend picked him up.

Williams says when they arrived on scene, they found a marijuana smoking device and a baggie of marijuana in the console of the vehicle. Williams made contact with Correy and he admitted that the marijuana was his. Correy will be cited for leaving the scene of an accident with damage to a vehicle, failure to maintain control, as well as charged with a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia and a serious misdemeanor for possession of marijuana.

Once the Sheriff’s office issues an arrest warrant and Correy is apprehended, he will be booked into the Greene County jail.
