The Guthrie County Auditor’s office is reminding everyone that nomination papers are now available for the upcoming school board elections in September.

Districts with soon-to-be available seats on their boards include: Panorama, where three seats are up for election in districts 1, 2, and 4, and the signatures of at least 10 eligible voters of the district are required on nomination petitions; Guthrie Center, where two seats are up for election, and 19 signatures are needed; and Adair-Casey, which has a separate school board to Guthrie Center, where there are three seats up for election.

The elections for West Central Valley will be handled by Dallas County, as they are the control county for the district. Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm explains, “West Central Valley, it’s Redfield, Dexter, Stuart, and Menlo are the polling locations, and we are the control county on that. When school districts cross county lines, it’s the county that has the largest taxable value that is the control county. That is only for 2017. The law has been changed, and there won’t be any control counties after this election.”

In all cases, the candidates must reside within the school district. Potential candidates will have until 5 p.m. on August 3rd to file their nomination papers in the office of their school board secretary. Packets are available from the school board secretary, the County Auditor’s Office, and at the Secretary of State’s website. A link to the website can be found below.
