Severe weather came through parts of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, which triggered our Severe Weather Action Team.

The National Weather Service issued two severe thunderstorm warnings for our area Thursday evening. The first came at 7:27pm for northeastern Guthrie County and southwestern Greene County. Bayard Fire and Rescue reported quarter-sized hail with the first set of storms. Just as the warning was set to expire at 8pm, another severe thunderstorm warning was issued until 8:45 for southwestern Greene County. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported street flooding in Scranton and Churdan following the second set of storms.

The third thunderstorm warning was then issued at 8:56pm for southeastern Greene County, northeastern Guthrie County and northern Dallas County until 9:45pm. During the storm, Alliant Energy reported as many as 1,356 customers were without power in the Dallas County area and about 12 Midland Power Cooperative customers were without power in the Jefferson area. All three storms had strong winds between 50- to 70-miles-per-hour and moderate to heavy rainfall. There’s no reports of damage at this time.

Six Raccoon Valley Radio staff members were in contact with WeatherEye meteorologists, local law enforcement and eye-witness reports during our Severe Weather Action Team coverage. Our Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage anytime there’s severe weather in our primary coverage area until either the warnings drop below severe levels or move out of our area.
