Jefferson City Council 6_13The Jefferson City Council recently decided to fill a vacant council seat by appointment.

Following the sudden resignation of former Council member Dan Benitz last month, the Council was left to either hold a special election or fill the vacancy by appointment. City Administrator Mike Palmer invites interested individuals to submit their names for consideration.

“If people are interested, it needs to be out of the second ward, they just need to contact the City Clerk by email and let her know. So then the Council will review the names and they’re next step will be to make a recommendation of who to appoint for that term.”

The appointment must be done within 60 days after the vacancy occurred, which is no later than July 17th. The Council will have at least the next two meetings to consider who to appoint until the November general election, where if re-elected the person will serve the remaining four-year term until December of 2019.
