boone-county-sheriff-iowa-squarelogo-1472717708010Greene County emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle accident with injuries near the Greene and Boone County line Friday morning.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s office, at 7:30am, deputies from the Greene and Boone County Sheriff’s offices, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, Ogden Fire Department, Boone County Ambulance Services and Boone County Emergency Management responded to the crash on Highway 30, just west of Beaver.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office tells Raccoon Valley Radio, Wendell Lee Jr. of Ames was traveling east on the highway when he lost control of his Buick Rendezvous, crossed the centerline and hit a westbound Landus Cooperative truck, driven by Mitchell Smotchers of Ogden. Smotchers tried to avoid getting hit, but the Rendezvous clipped the rear end of the truck and rolled both vehicles into the north ditch.

Lee Jr. was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Grand Junction Rescue with non-life threatening injuries. Smotchers was transported to Boone County Hospital by Boone County Ambulance also with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were total losses.

Charges against Lee Jr. are pending completion of the investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s office.

A portion of Highway 30 was closed for 90-minutes while crews were cleaning up the scene.
