According to court documents, 31-year-old Courtney Lynn Kern was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor charge for third degree criminal mischief.

The charges stem from an incident where a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse was set on fire in the 100 block of Lovejoy Street in Rippey on June 5, 2016. The car was registered to Mary Beyer of Des Moines. Kern was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in civil penalties, court-appointed attorney fees, law enforcement surcharges and court costs.

Kern was originally charged with felonies for arson and theft, but court documents show that the charges were amended to the aggravated misdemeanor for criminal mischief.
