A Monday afternoon thunderstorm activated Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Guthrie, all of Greene and Carroll counties at 3:36pm. A second warning was issued for Greene County until 4:15pm. Our Severe Weather Action Team provided live coverage on all three of our stations. KGRA 98.9 FM was off the air due to a lightning strike that affected other customers in the area, according to Midland Power Cooperative officials.

Other reports with the storms include heavy rainfall and trained weather spotter reports of dime and nickel sized hail about three miles southeast of Scranton. No reports of damage are known at this time.

Five members of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team took part in the live broadcast and were in contact with Weather Eye meteorologists and local law enforcement. Our Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage anytime there’s severe weather in our primary coverage area until either the warnings drop below severe levels or move out of our area.
