IA_-_Story_County_SheriffA Jefferson man suffered minor injuries after causing an accident on Interstate-35 in Ames.

Story County Sheriff’s Office Captain Barry Thomas says Tim Waters was injured after he tried to merge onto I-35. He was going too fast on the on ramp and his flatbed truck rolled over and slid onto both northbound lanes from the on ramp. The truck was carrying two 3,000-gallon tanks of a farm pesticide, which spilled onto the interstate. The pesticide was not hazardous. Waters was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames where he was treated and released for his injuries.

Crews were on scene from 8:15am Tuesday until right before noon. Thomas adds that they were able to keep at least one northbound lane open while they cleaned up the scene. Traffic was backed up and motorists were delayed by an hour in their commute through the accident scene. The truck was a total loss.

Thomas points out that Waters will be charged with failure to maintain control.

The Iowa Department of Transportation Law Enforcement, Iowa State Patrol and Nevada Fire Department assisted at the scene.
