The Greene County softball team went 1-6 last week and is 5-16 overall heading into Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action tonight in Roland vs. Roland-Story. The Norsemen overcame an early 3-0 deficit in Jefferson earlier this season to win the first meeting between the two by a final of 8-3.

The Rams won once and lost twice in Saturday’s West Marshall Tournament in State Center. They were 12-0 winners in three innings by the 12-run rule vs. Gladbrook-Reinbeck, then lost 4-0 to the host Trojans, who are ranked tenth in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The day ended with a 10-3 loss to Des Moines Christian.

Left handed leadoff slap hitter Megan Carey leads the Rams in batting average by well over .100 points. She’s hitting .438 after starting the season 0-7. Hannah Promes hit her first homer of the season on Saturday in the Greene County victory and she’s second on the team in batting average at .313. Promes also leads the team in runs batted in with 16, and Carey is the team leader in runs scored at 17.
