Greene County School Board 6_21The Greene County School Board met Wednesday in regular session.

The Board discussed a couple of complaints from Heather Patrick regarding board policies on substance free workplace and camera surveillance. She talked about an incident regarding a staff member she thought would be under reasonable suspicion to be on drugs or alcohol. The district’s policy is that they can’t test a staff member without reasonable suspicion and they follow the fourth amendment of the US Constitution. Patrick said she filed a complaint with the district through second-hand knowledge of the incident. The Board then decided to have Superintendent Tim Christensen ask the district’s legal counsel to define what reasonable suspicion meant. Patrick also brought up a concern about non-school individuals having access to the district’s surveillance system on their mobile phones. Again, the Board instructed Christensen to ask legal counsel about individuals being in public institutions, if that infringes on a child’s privacy. Both topics will be brought back up at next month’s meeting.

The Board then approved a $6,500 contract with 21st Century Rehabilitation to continue to use their athletic trainer services and newed the 28E agreement with New Opportunities for the Head Start program and utilizing their food services. Additionally, the Board approved to advertise obsolete equipment from the intermediate building in Grand Junction to the public to make offers on, a sharing agreement with Southeast Valley School District for students to participate in the student construction program at the high school and the district’s changes to the vision/mission/values/goals statement.

The Board also set next Wednesday as a joint sub-committee meeting with a few Paton-Churdan School Board members. The Board will also met with the Grand Junction City Council to decide on what to do with the school building in Grand Junction.
