Despite giving up double-digit runs for the fourth time in as many games this week, South Hamilton defeated Greene County in Friday night Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball, 11-10, in Jewell. It was the first win in conference play for the Hawks and just their fourth overall. Greene County fell to 7-11 on the season and 5-8 in the conference.

The Rams trailed most of the night as SH scored two runs in the first inning, five in the third, one each in the fifth and sixth, and two in the bottom of the seventh. Greene County had three runs in the third, one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and a big five run seventh to take them from trailing 9-5 to being up 10-9.

SH had nine hits and made three errors while the Rams had 10 hits and five errors. Bryce Hoyle was the starting pitcher for Greene County. He went 2-1/3 innings and allowed seven runs, three earned, on four hits, seven walks, and he hit one batter with a pitch. Hoyle had three strikeouts. Ben Bravard took the loss after pitching 4-1/3 innings. He allowed five hits and four walks, plus one hit batsman. Bravard had two strikeouts and three of the four runs off him were earned.

Offensively, Greene County had a triple, single, and one run batted in from Trey Tucker. Austin Delp doubled, singled, and had two RBI, and Ben Wilkins singled twice and drove in two runs. Chase Stoline had a single and one run batted in, as did Nick Breon. Wade Adcock and Bravard added base hits, and Tom Gannon drove in a run.

Greene County has two more games today in the Kuemper Catholic Tournament starting with a morning contest vs. Spencer at Merchants’ Park in Carroll.
