Greene County scored three times in the top of the first inning, then didn’t score again and the Rams dropped a 10-3 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball game in Alleman to North Polk on Thursday night. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team fell to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference, while the Comets improved to 11-6 and 8-3. The Rams faced four good teams this week and lost all four games. They’ll be in State Center tomorrow for the West Marshall tournament.

Hannah Promes doubled and singled and Megan Carey had three singles for the Rams. Megan Durbin added a base hit and run batted in, as did Samantha Hardaway. The seven hits were one more than Greene County had in its first three games of the week combined.

North Polk also had seven hits, including a home run from Carolyn Steffen. Sami Swygg was the winning pitcher, while Jenna Beyers took the loss for the Rams. Beyers went the first two innings and Promes pitched the last four. The two Rams walked the Comets eight times and all 10 runs were earned.
