national weather serviceA Thursday evening thunderstorm activated Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Madison County, southeastern Guthrie County, northeastern Adair County and southwestern Dallas County at 8:55 p.m. and the last warning expired at 10:45 p.m. Our Severe Weather Action Team provided live coverage on KDLS and KKRF.

Reports included heavy rainfall, pea size up to 2 inch hail reported in Adair County, lightning and up to 60 mile per hour wind gusts across the affected area. Radar indicated hail was reported throughout the storm and it was observed by Raccoon Valley Radio Staff in Stuart and reported in Adair County by Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf. No reports of damage have been received at this time.

Six members of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team took part in the live broadcast and were in contact with Weather Eye meteorologists and Guthrie and Adair County Emergency Manager Bob Kempf throughout the storm. Our Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage anytime there’s severe weather in our primary coverage area until either the warnings drop below severe levels or move out of our area.
