Greene County is the only Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball team to own a victory over Saydel (Des Moines) in the last two seasons. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams were 5-4 winners in Des Moines earlier this season, and when the Rams hosted the Eagles on Wednesday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson, it looked as though a season sweep was possible. Saydel earned the split of the two games, however, after trailing 2-1 through five innings, they tied the game with a sixth inning run, then scored twice in the seventh for a 4-2 victory. The Rams fall to 5-7 in conference games and 7-10 overall. The Eagles continue to lead the conference.

Austin Delp fell to 0-4 on the season, but he’s pitched well enough to win every one of his starts. Delp allowed two earned runs in seven innings on 10 hits, two walks, and he struck three batters out.

The Rams had six hits, all singles, from six different players. Delp and Trey Tucker had base hits and one run batted in. Ben Wilkins, Chase Stoline, Wade Adcock, and Ben Bravard, also singled.

Next up is a Friday night trip to Jewell to face South Hamilton.
