Supervisors and Auditor

At the most recent meeting of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, they passed a resolution stating their opposition to the proposed Adel annexation.

The land in question is south of the City, covering over 1,000 acres. There is already land being developed in the area, but the Supervisors have raised several questions about the City’s preparedness for bringing in such a substantial annexation. Those concerns will be presented to the Adel City Council at an upcoming public hearing. The Board had two resolutions to choose from, one which was more of an overview, and another that was more detailed. They chose to approve the detailed resolution.

The resolution states the Supervisors oppose the annexation largely because of insufficient information. The lacking information includes: the City’s ability to extend sewer service to the area within a reasonable time; the City’s plans to extend water service to the annexation area at sufficient pressure to provide adequate fire service; and the City of Adel fire and emergency services’s ability to reasonably protect future landowners, given the size of the area. Additionally, some property within the area would be annexed without the consent of the owners. There’s also concerns about how the City will pay for the area’s infrastructure, since it will be included in the residential tax abatement, commercial tax abatement, and industrial tax exemption programs.

The public meeting to discuss the annexation will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13th at the Adel Public Library.
