It was a pair of closely contested non conference match ups Thursday night for the ACGC softball and baseball teams. Both squads were on the road and both came away victories with the Lady Chargers claiming a 6-3 win over Coon Rapids-Bayard while the Charger baseball team took home a 4-2 win over East Union.

Quite the low scoring affair on the baseball diamond where all but two innings where dominated with 0’s on the scoreboard. East Union broke through first by spotting two runs in the first. Despite just three hits on the night, the Chargers managed to scrape across all four of their runs in the top of the second , claiming the lead and the eventual 4-2 win. Freshmen Bryce Littler and junior Owen Hansen caused the most damage as each pushed across a pair of RBI’s. Littler pushed across his two runs via a single while Hansen connected on the teams 13th double for his two RBI’s. ACGC now draws closer to .500 with a now 4-8 record.

Meanwhile on the softball diamond, the Lady Chargers would claim an early lead and never look back. ACGC put up three runs in the first, one run in the second, and two runs in the third inning, all before Coon Rapids-Bayard connected on their three runs in the 7th. Despite the late game rally, ACGC would hold on to win bringing their record back to .500 at 8-8. Those six runs for the Lady Chargers came courtesy of 10 hits, 5 RBI’s, and just two walks.

The next match ups for both teams will come against CAM high school but at separate venue’s as the Charger baseball team travels to Anita tonight while the softball squad will square off against CAM tomorrow starting off a weekend tournament in Audubon.
