There was another round of severe weather that came through Greene County Wednesday afternoon and for one home in Rippey, it’s an experience they won’t forget.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Greene County around 4:15pm. By the time the warning ended, a large tree branch broke off and landed on the first story roof at Alice Wedemeyer’s home at 106 East Percival Street. Wedemeyer was working when she got the call and immediately following the storm, neighbors armed with ladders and chainsaws came to help clean up the mess.

“I love living in a small town. That is the best part, my neighbors just jumped out to help, I didn’t have to ask anybody. It was wonderful.”

Wedemeyer added that there were other family members living in the home and no one was hurt from the incident. She’s happy to have all of her windows intact.
