Resized952017051695220433A round of severe thunderstorms went through the Raccoon River area late Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a thunderstorm severe warning at 8:15pm for northern Greene County. That triggered our Severe Weather Action Team coverage. The National Weather Service then issued another severe thunderstorm warning for all of Greene and Guthrie counties, along with western Dallas County at 8:22. Those warnings went until 9:30pm. The final set of severe thunderstorm warnings were then issued for southwestern Greene County and western Guthrie County from 9:18 to 10pm.

Threats with each warning were 50 to 70 miles-per-hour winds and heavy rainfall. Pea-sized hail was reported in Guthrie Center and Perry. Damage reports include a roof blown off an apartment complex in Perry at South Gate and 8th Street and there was a tree that was knocked over at 202 South 7th Street in Grand Junction and landed on a powerline.

Nine Raccoon Valley Radio staff members were in contact with Weather Eye meteorologist, local law enforcement and emergency management personnel during the storm.
