Greene County junior Rachael Danielson won the Region 1 girls’ golf tournament in Denison on Monday with an 18-hole score of 45-40=85. She qualifies for a second straight Class 4A girls’ golf tournament, which will be in Marshalltown starting on May 30.

Heath Telleen is the Rams’ coach and of Danielson’s round, he said, “Rachael played a fantastic back nine today to take first place at today’s regional. Majestic Hills is a tough course and there was some great competition there today. This is a great accomplishment for her to be going to back-to-back State tournaments.”

The top five individuals from each of the four Class 4A regionals advance, as do the first and second place teams. Danielson edged Avery Terwilliger of Humboldt by a stroke, 85-86, after Terwilliger led after nine holes, 43-45. Sara Sweeney of Carroll shot 88, with Brooke Anderson of Humboldt at 91, and Somer Sinnard of Carroll at 94.
