the Greene County High School softball and baseball teams are hoping the weather cooperates and they can open the 2017 season as scheduled tonight. The Rams play the PCM teams with softball on KG98 around 7 p.m. in Monroe and baseball closer to 7:30 p.m. in Prairie City. Not only do softball coach Tom Kennedy and baseball coach Mark Sawhill wish to start the season, but if they get the games in tonight, they will have the longest road trips of the season behind them on day one.

The Rams were 16-14 last year in softball and 11-17 in baseball. Both squads return all but two regular starters from 2016 and optimism is high in both sports. One reason is returning pitching, which both teams return. Senior Hannah Promes for softball and sophomore Austin Delp in baseball both received some Heart of Iowa Activities Conference recognition a season ago.
