The Perry Police Department held a press conference today where they confirmed 41-year-old Marc Ray and 40-year-old Misty Ray have been arrested on charges stemming from the death of their adopted daughter, 16-year-old Sabrina Ray.

Police Chief Eric Vaughn, as well as Mitchell Mortvedt of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation told reporters the Rays had been arrested this morning without incident and charged with eight charges each. The charges brought against the couple are one count of child endangerment resulting in death, a class B felony, four counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury, a class C felony, and three counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, a class C felony.

Four of the charges levied against the Rays were related to two additional children found at the home when they found Sabrina. The other children, a 10-year-old girl and 12-year-old girl were also adopted children of the Rays, and they are currently under physicians care. Vaughn couldn’t comment on the other children’s present conditions.

Sabrina was found dead at the house located at 1708 1st Avenue in Perry at around 6:30 p.m. last Friday. Marc and Misty were out of the state at the time Sabrina was found. They operated an in-home daycare that had been investigated in the past by the Department of Human Services.

An autopsy was performed Monday, though the exact cause of death will not be known for several more weeks. However, based on the Medical Examiner’s initial autopsy and a coordinated investigation between the Perry Police and the DCI, they found probable cause to execute the arrests.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information about this case as it’s made official.
