West Central Valley senior Kristin Culp won the Class 2A girls’ 400 meter hurdles race on Friday and became the first track & field champion in the district’s more than 20 years of existence. Culp and Jaci Vos of PCM (Monroe) were in a tight battle near the end when Vos clipped the last hurdle and fell onto the track, clearing the way for Culp, who was clocked in 1:04.84. She also qualified for today’s 100 meter hurdles final.

Other 2A place winners at Drake Stadium on a raw, windy, and sometimes drizzly day were:

Girls discus throw- Lydia Knapp, Panorama 120′ 6″; seventh place

Girls high jump- Morgan Johnk, Panorama 5′ 2″; fifth place.

Boys discus throw- Matt Webner, Panorama 165′ 2″; fourth place

Boys 400 meter hurdles- Jeremiah George, Woodward Academy :56.34; eighth place.

Class 1A place winners:

Girls discus throw- Kennedy Morris, Earlham, 121′ 9″; third place.

Girls distance medley relay- Nodaway Valley 4:24.80 (Paige McElfish, Sadie Marnin, Rachel Scheel, Reagan Weinheimer); sixth place.

Boys high jump- Sam Obert, Coon Rapids-Bayard; 6′ 2″; fourth place.

Class 3A place winners:

Girls distance medley relay- ADM 4:18.59 (Lizzy Lohmann, Elle Hook, Anna Kenny, Sadie Juergens); eighth place.

Today is the third and final day of the Coed State Meet and it’s all finals and all running events. ADM junior sprinter Keaton Kester is the fastest 3A qualifier for the girls 100 and 200 meter dash races. She also anchored the Tigers to the second fastest qualifying time in the 4 x 100 meter relay, which also has Sydney Bergman, Josi Lineman, and Sami Schepers.

Johnk joins Culp in the 2A 100 meter hurdles final for girls in 2A, while the Blomgren twins, Meagan and Mackenzie, are both in the 2A 100 meter dash final. Van Meter is in the boys’ shuttle hurdle relay final with Sam Thompson, Noah Hale, Owen Jones, and Tyler Kubiak, while Earlham in 1A has its boys shuttle in the final with Harrison Miller, Eli Kasap, Caleb Swalla, and Brian Vanderheiden.

Perry qualified its boys 4 x 400 meter relay for today’s final by winning their heat in 3:24.63 with Reece Dunlap, Brandon Kenyon, Rashon Ivory, and Adan Medina. The Blue Jays are the third fastest qualifier for the 3A final.

Woodward Academy qualified for the 2A final in the 4 x 100 meter relay with Darnell Green, Royzell Henderson, Javontez McCray, and Ruben Islas.

Action begins at 9 a.m. at Drake Stadium with all four classes competing. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have updates throughout the day.
