Dallas Co Supervisors

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning in regular session.

The items discussed included the continuation of public hearings related to Tyson Foods of Perry. The first related to an easement between Tyson and Dallas County Conservation to relocate a portion of the Raccoon River Valley Bike Trail. The project has been over a year in the making, and is now waiting for approval from the City of Perry to sell the portion of land the trail will be relocated to. In the meantime, the Board approved the easement, which will become void if Perry doesn’t approve the sale of the land.

The other public hearing related to Tyson involved a small sliver of land that was inside their property but still owned by the County. The Board approved the sale of the land. They also held two additional public hearings related to a budget amendment and rezoning of property near DeSoto. No one spoke against either topic during the hearings, so the Board approved resolutions accepting both.

Other resolutions approved during the meeting include a funds request by Adams Township for pioneer cemetery restorations, a building inspector service contract with Finestead Enterprises, and a renewal of the health plan for county employees. They also approved bids for the survey and geotech work for the new law enforcement center. Civil Design Advantage had the low bid of $2,500 for the survey work, while Team Services had the low bid of $3,745 for the geotech services. Both bids were considerably under what was estimated.

Finally, the Supervisors listened to a proposal for restructuring the county’s Public Health Department. However, they did not approve anything at the meeting and will look into it further at a later date.
