West Central Valley has its first track and field state champion in school history.

Senior Kristin Culp won the 2A girls’ 400 meter hurdles on Friday and became the first track & field champion in the district’s more than 20 years of existence. Culp and Jaci Vos of PCM (Monroe) were battling in the stretch, but Vos clipped the last hurdle and fell onto the track, clearing the way for Culp to finish with a state-leading 1:04.84. Culp also picked up a third place  in the 100 meter hurdles final clocking in at 15.91, just over a third of a second behind Faith Meyer of Pocahontas Area, who took home the gold.
