Friday afternoon, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn senior Kade Overton was awarded one of Raccoon Valley Radio’s $250 Business and Broadcasting scholarships.

Overton, who plans on studying journalism and sports broadcasting at the University of Iowa, was a natural choice for the scholarship according to Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee. “He’s shown a great amount of leadership throughout high school, both in his academics as well as in his athletics, all while continuing to do various job and things throughout the Adel community.”

Every year, Raccoon Valley Radio gives out two $250 scholarships to two area seniors going into either business or broadcasting at a two or four-year college or university. McGee adds, “It’s our way as a company to give back to the community that’s given us so much, as well as hopefully get these kids on a good start to further their education either in business or in broadcasting.”

The scholarships are made possible by the businesses that are involved with the station’s Senior Salute program.
