This week shoppers at the Perry Hy-Vee and Fareway have had the opportunity to support the annual Chamber of Commerce fireworks drive through “Round-up” promotions.

The fundraiser has become a bit of friendly competition between the two grocery stores over the years, with Fareway taking the honor of most raised last year. The round-up promotion allows customers at either store to round their total up to the nearest dollar, with the remainder going towards the fireworks fundraiser.

According to Chamber Director Bob Wilson, both stores want to have the honor of raising the most, so they give their employees incentives to push the fundraiser at the checkout. “That’s so awesome that those companies allow us to do that, and they actually promote it. They incentivize their employees to help out. And that’s what it’s all about, is community. So we’ll get there.” The round-up promotion runs through Saturday. After last Thursday’s day of fundraising, the fireworks drive had raised $9,000, but Wilson is hopeful the round-up promotion will push it over $15,000.
