John BerryA Jefferson man faces a felony theft charge from an investigation in Ames.

Ames Police Investigation Commander Geoff Huff says 26 year-old John Wayne Berry is charged with a Class C Felony for first degree theft. Huff tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Berry recently moved in with his brother and another roommate on Jewell Street in Ames. The roommate had a ten year-old video game, accessory and game system collection of rare and old items.

Huff points out that over a six-week period, Berry allegedly stole 196 items and sold them to Gamers in Ames. Huff adds that they were able to identify 190 of the 196 reported stolen items. Berry sold those items and deprived the victim of $16,281. Huff says they filed an arrest warrant on April 3rd.

Jefferson Police officers arrested Berry in the 700 block of South Wilson Avenue on Wednesday. Berry was booked into the Greene County jail and was transported to the Story County jail on Thursday. He remains in jail under a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
