It’s officially T-minus one week away from the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines and the window for  high school track teams and individuals to qualify gets smaller and smaller by the hour.

The official close to the qualifying window will be tonight at 11:59 pm giving both the ADM girls and boys track teams one more shot each for a chance to head to Des Moines. For head coach Bart Mueller, his Lady Tiger team currently has three events with their tickets punched to the blue oval. Two of those belong to the talented junior Keaton Kester as the reigning 2A champion in the 100 and 200 meter dash events currently holds down the states 5th best time in the 100 (12.30 seconds) and 4th fastest time in the 200 (25.35). The Drake Relays take the top 32 state entries in both events. ADM’s 4 x 100 meter relay team is also on the docket coming in with the 21st fastest time in the state at 50.83 seconds; the Drake Relays take the top 80 in that event.

One individual who will be seeking to add her name on to the Drake Relays list will be sophomore Sadie Jurergens in the 800. The Drake Relays take the top 16 but Sadie currently sits outside looking in resting in 20th. She would just need to shave off .16 seconds worth to be inside the top 16.

The Tiger boys have just one event currently set to take on the Drake Relays which would be senior Jacob West in the high jump. West has himself currently locked in the 19th best jump at 6′-04″ which he acquired in Pella on Monday; the Drake Relays take the top 24 in the field events.

The Tiger boys come fresh off a 4th place performance in the Bomber relays where yet again, Reece McLaughlin took first in the long jump at 20′-04.25″. McLaughlin still has some work to do if he wants to head to Des Moines currently sitting 55th in the state while only the top 16 make in to Drake and the last qualifying distance is 21′-10″.

The Lady Tigers are in Newton this afternoon inside HA Lynn Stadium taking on a 9 team field while the Tiger boys are up against a seven team field in Urbandale.
