The Fourth of July celebration in Perry is still three months away, but the Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual fireworks fundraising drive Thursday.

Chamber Director Bob Wilson says every cent they raise during the drive will go towards purchasing fireworks for the display. The fundraising efforts will start at 5 a.m. in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot, where they will be giving commuters free coffee and asking for donations until 8 a.m.

After that, they will be heading to the KDLS studio for the annual pie auction run by Tom Burkgren. Wilson says, “It is so fun. We’re going to do the live pie auction on the radio. We have eight pies from local bakers that are just phenomenal. We need your pledges, we need you to call in, we need you to bid from 8-9. Get those dollars coming in here. It’s a fun competition.”

While the pie auction is going on, from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Chamber members will be in front of the Hotel Pattee accepting donations. The day of fundraising will conclude at the Perry Fareway from 4-6 p.m. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from all of the day’s events. Additionally, from April 13-22, Hy-Vee and Fareway are giving shoppers the opportunity to round their total up to the nearest dollar with the extra going towards the fireworks drive. Wilson’s goal is to raise more than $15,000. Since all the money for the display will come from donations, he reminds people if they want a good show, they need to be willing to give.
