Most of the 36 boys and 25 girls on the Greene County High School track & field squads are multi-sport athletes, and some are four sport participants. That suits new head football coach Mitch Moore just fine. He was a four-sport athlete at Ballard (Huxley) High School and likes what being in different sports does from a competitive standpoint as well as developmental. The coach understands specialization is more popular among some than it used to be, but he sees a downside to that approach. “You’re not developing the motor skills you need at a young age if you’re specializing in a specific sport. You need all sports. So, that’ll be something I’ll hit on right away.”
The Rams took partial girls and boys track & field squads to indoor competition in Ames earlier this week on the Iowa State University campus. The first outdoor meet on the Greene County schedule is the Rams’ Early Bird Meet set for Monday, March 27 at Linduska Field.
