The high school golf season begins today for Greene County High School players. That’s a week later than the official start date in Iowa, but due to Spring Break last week, the Rams’ coaches decided to wait until today to begin.

Girls’ coach Heath Telleen returns 2016 State Tournament qualifier Rachael Danielson, a junior. Danielson became the first female from a Jefferson-based program to play in a State Tournament in more than 50 years. There’s not a tremendous amount of experience on the varsity level to go with Danielson, but the coach envisions more girls out than last year.

Elijah Block is the top returning player for boys’ coach Dave Destival. Numbers are not a problem for the Rams on the boys’ side as the coach is expecting at least 35 to report for the first practice. Block is joined by a handful of others with varsity experience, as well as some newcomers that have a chance to play right away.
