Greene County High School junior Megan Durbin joined rare air when she won the Drake Relays high jump title and Class 3A State Meet high jump title as a sophomore. She became the first track & field state champion from a Jefferson-based program in 21 years, and the first in a Greene County uniform. Before Durbin, the Rams hadn’t had a Drake Relays champion since 1994. At Media Day earlier this week, Durbin was asked was the success and experiences she had a year ago had done for her. “Made me humble. I don’t like talking about myself. When people bring up the fact I jumped 5′ 8″, I always say, ‘Only once!’ I don’t know if I’ll do it again, hopefully I will, but I don’t know if it’ll happen again.”

Durbin also is a sprinter with State Meet experience. She was asked about her goals for this season on the track. “I want to do really well in our relays. I think we have a really good chance of doing well. I think all of us have gotten faster and I hope we can make it happen and do well at State.”

The Rams open the 2017 outdoor season on Monday, March 27 in Jefferson at Linduska Field for the Greene County Coed Early Bird Meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
