ADMThe Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board recently approved next year’s school calendar.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the first day of the 2017-18 school year will be August 23rd and the last day is slated on May 25th. Spring break is scheduled for March 12th through the 16th of 2018. Dufoe points out that the calendar also includes several early out dismissals.

“As is typical for us, we have 11 or 12 early outs typically on Wednesdays that we utilize for professional development and those are staggered over our nine months.”

Dufoe stresses the importance of having that professional development time for teachers and staff.

“Well it’s really critical. We need more time. So it’s on us to make sure that it’s very productive because we know that it is time out of the classroom for students. But it’s vital to us as we continue to develop and improve. We just can’t improve if we don’t have time to learn from each other.”

Dufoe says there is time during the school day where teachers carve out additional professional development and professional learning committee time as well. He adds that there hasn’t been too much discussion as far as stretching those early dismissal days to a weekly basis.
